ABSTRACT
The park is blessed with rich wildlife. This tourist destination features with river that has a wide rim, and slowly flows to the ponds, small lakes, and other small areas that have beautiful channels. The park accommodates bird species such as shoebill (whale-headed stork), hamerkop, marabou stork, African openbill stork, crane island, Spur-winged goose, ring-necked dove, cattle egret et cetera.
The environment's natural vegetation is kept with care in this park. In this area, visitors may opt to visit during the eastern zone of the park. The park consists of hospitable and experienced staff members who will assist you and never feel alone. FLASHBACK
According to TANAPA (Tanzania National Park), the park was officially recognized in 2019. This area stretches up to 3865 km2. The park is the product of two game reserves from north 2054 km 2 and eastern north 1,811 km2 Ugalla Game Reserve. Hence these two make 3865 km square of the entire area.
The name of this marvelous park came from the Ugalla River. The river is the only source of water for this area during the dry season. The water flows outside of the park of Moyowosi area and flows up to Lake Tanganyika. In 1920 there were existence of lots of tsetse flies in some of the areas around the park which nowadays the area is called Ikunkwa. The tsetse flies killed people and brought about negative effects on the people of this area. During the British colonial era, people were moved to Uyumbu, Uruira, and Kaliua villages due to sleeping sickness disease.
The British found the indigenous put on white feathers on their head for ritual purpose. The feathers were traditionally known as “Ngalla” but the British misheard and called it “Ugalla”, and continued to call it Ugalla until now. Hence this is where the name Ugalla came from; (the Nyamwezi and Wakibende were the tribes available in this area).
WAYS TO REACH UGALLA
You will reach your destination through the road. It is advised to use 4x4 vehicles, the road is accessed from Tabora town (170 km) from Kaliua district and Urambo district (75 km). You may as well choose to reach your destination through air whereby you may opt to use chattered flights near Urambo and Kaliua. You may use available private or public chattered flights (Muhuba, siri, and Kasense) only used during the dry season.
Weather: Tropical from November to May is the rainy season 15 OC to 21 OC. From April to May, the is average rain (800m to 1000m). When it is hot season the temperature is between 28OC to 30 OC.
GROUNDS FOR VISITING UGALLA
The first reason is wildlife in particular wild animals i.e. elephant, lion, sable antelope, Topi, Korongo, antelope, wild dog, (Tragelaphus) spiral-horned bovines, hartebeest, Leopard, Buffalo, crocodile, Taurotragus, hyena, Fox, Taya, the zebra and Nzohe are available in the western areas of the park.
However, among other reasons, you will be amused by the greenery whereby the natural vegetation is divided into two natures i.e. miombo and hills. It covers 2km of the large area of the park. The surrounding area of Ugalla River is landscape, valleys, and forests featuring hills.
Nevertheless, the other reason is that you will be as well amused by the marvelous ant hill in the plain. the creases stream, valleys, and forest-featured hills that give the Ugalla River a stunning view. Nevertheless, the presence of ant hills will mesmerize you. The ant hills give the ability the predator a great view to see and catch its prey.
Moreover, the existence of river Ugalla in the park is also among other reasons to pay a visit to this amazing park. The river’s channels in the middle of the park give stunning views and hence attract different types of animals. You will be pleased to spot both aquatic animals and the one in the dry land. River Ugalla is the source of water in the dry seasons.
Furthermore, among other reasons the presence of historical sites such as Mfinula at Ikunkwa, Senga II and Ilyamchele. Therefore, historical sites assist in preserving the historical culture of the people live in it.
AVAILABLE ACTIVITIES
You will engage in a Walking safari, with the help of the guide you will get a chance to view the scenery at close range and experience the difference in gaining knowledge about the wildlife. Such activity may take 4 hours minimum depending on your preference. Meanwhile, you will engage in game safari. However, you will end up to stick on the river itself with regard to game safari . You will be fascinated by everlasting meanders, due to its dispensed dense group of enormous trees beside the bank of the river giving marvelous area to convince you to camp and chill for a picnic enjoying spotting wildlife near you.
In addition, you will also engage in bird-watching. You may use binoculars or spotting birds with your naked eyes. You will experience the difference in watching and learning more about the large number of bird species According to TANAPA there are more than 147 birds. Moving on, you will engage in photographing whereby commercial photographing is not permitted unless you are granted permission to do so.
Notwithstanding, only if you are interested in enjoying your dinner at the bush. You will be required to make a preliminary booking to engage in bush dining. This will be in the bush, the table will be set and you will be served a delicious meal and experience the difference in dining in the bush.
